Turmeric & Manuka Honey Mask

This mask has become one of my absolute favorites. (I actually have one on right now as we speak). It is so simple and quick to whip together but the healing benefits that the ingredients supply for your skin are immense, so let’s talk about that…
manuka honeyI’ll start with Manuka Honey whose taste isn’t the only thing sweet about it. Manuka Honey is produced from bees who harvest nectar from the man-uka bush which is also known as the tea tree. It differs from traditional honey due to the fact that it is an antibacterial, healing workhorse. When exposed to oxygen and applied to damp skin the honey interacts releasing hydrogen-peroxide which is widely known as a disinfectant. This makes manuka honey the perfect partner in crime for battling acne-prone skin (like mine). This honey not only kills acne-causing bacteria but it also helps to soothe and heal problem skin while regulating your skin’s pH levels.
Turmeric
Turmeric is better known as a spice often used in Eastern culinary dishes. It’s a root that comes from the ginger family that is often dried and ground into powder form. Turmeric is high in a chemical compound called curcumin which is what gives this root its bright yellow-ish coloring along with supplying it with numerous other beneficial properties. Curcumin is responsible for turmeric’s ability to treat inflamed skin, speed the healing process of wounds, and correct skin pigmentation from acne or scarring.
The Mask:

Turmeric-Honey Mask

1 tsp Turmeric Powder

1 tbs Manuka Honey

1 tbs distilled water
Mix the ingredients well and apply to damp skin.
Allow the mixture about 10-15 minutes to dry.
Wash off the mask with a washcloth and warm water.

Tip: I typically use a little baking soda mixed with water to exfoliate my skin and get rid of any turmeric residue that may leave a little color behind.
